Accumulation of "Temporary" Sync Solutions
Every temporary solution, every rushed feature, added another layer of coordination overhead. Data had to stay in sync between a monolith and a new service. Then a third system entered. Now three systems had to agree.
That extra cost from today's architecture is sync tax: domain coupling plus coordination, estimated from pull request timing, review rounds, and spread across repositories and authors.
