FAQ

Questions

Defusor is Beamer’s product. These answers cover what it is, what you receive, what it costs, and how GitHub is used.

What is Defusor?
Defusor turns git data into engineering overspend metrics and a cost-cut plan. You get a PDF by email: metrics, explanations, analysis, and recommendations.
Who is this for?
CEOs and CTOs of Series B and Series C SaaS companies. Product companies. Not every industry, not agencies.
What is a founding customer?
Founding customers pay half the measured per-contributor price. 5 founding customers; 5 remain.
What is a loaded hourly rate?
What one engineer costs you per hour, including salary and overhead. You enter it during setup. Every dollar on the report is hours times that rate.
What problem is this for?
Engineering costs more than it should, and you cannot see by how much. The extra is buried in payroll and meetings, not on a budget line. Defusor measures that extra for the product you already ship.
What is in the PDF?

A report for this quarter. What finished work should have cost. How much extra you paid because of how the product is put together. Extra engineering time from work that had to be fixed or undone (not lost sales). The total extra. How those numbers were worked out. Where the extra is coming from. What to untangle first.

The report names those amounts. What the work should have cost is Vacuum Effort. Extra from how the product is put together (parts that have to change together, plus waiting and meetings) is the sync tax. Extra from fixes and undos is failure risk. The extra on top of what the work should have cost is Engineering Overspending. Only finished work this quarter counts. Every dollar is hours times the hourly rate you enter.

What do I receive?
A PDF report by email.
What information do I need to provide?
Read-only GitHub access, plus company display name, loaded hourly rate, and display currency (USD, EUR, or PLN). The rate is yours: every dollar on the report is hours times that rate.
What does it cost?
You pay per git contributor on the product repositories we select. See pricing for the current rate.
When do you charge?
We charge after a payment method is on file, GitHub is linked with All repositories, your company details are in, and you have seen the detected contributor count and this month’s amount. That is when the first analysis starts. You are billed monthly. The PDF is delivered quarterly: the first report after the first charge, then once per calendar quarter.
Will the price go up?
The amount you pay is based on the number of git contributors on the product repositories we select. See pricing for details.
Why do you need GitHub access?
We scan git history and pull-request data to infer cost from how the product evolved. Each repository is treated as a component of one product. Access is read-only, never a working copy of your source tree. We store extracted analysis rows, not your source files. All repositories, current and future, because we choose which repos belong to that product and cannot know that list in advance. See the Privacy Policy.
How far back do you look?
From the signup date we look back up to five years of git history. The PDF you receive is for the last completed calendar quarter, not a running total since the day you signed up.
Do I see live numbers in the app?
This MVP delivers the report as a PDF by email. A dashboard will come later.
How do I cancel?
Cancel anytime in the Stripe customer portal. One click, no email, no call. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid. That is when further reports and invoices stop.

Measure the overspending. Then change what made it expensive.
